Business Stationery

How do you view your business? What types of impressions do you want to make on prospects and clients? Is your image important to you? Do you care what others think of you? Is your business stationery a reflection of your business?

You may not realize or put much thought into it, but businesses are judged by not only what they do and how they act, but also on how they look. From they way sales reps and employees dress, to the appearance of their office or storefront. Image, as they say, is everything. Or at least a good percentage.

Having professional, clean, attractive business stationery should not be overlooked, and it should also be utilized as a way of marketing your business. Now just speaking from my own opinion and experience, if someone hands me a business cards that looks like it was printed off of their desktop printer on stock that was bought at the local office supply store with the ugly perforated edges and flimsy paper weight, then personally to me that person really doesn’t care much about their business, and how do I know they are going to be a good service provider to me? I mean if they don’t care about how they look, what type of effort are they going to put in when it comes to my business needs?

Having a well designed, quality printed business card to hand out tells people that you care about how you look and how you are perceived. It tells people that you are serious about your business and company. It tells people that you respect how your business is viewed.

And this doesn’t just apply to your business cards. All of your business stationery should be of high quality and reflect the level of professionalism that you want to be known for. This includes your Letterheads, Envelopes, Brochures, Thank You Cards, and all of your other marketing material.

I once had a client call me, who for years refused to get their envelopes printed, they had a self inking stamp that had their address on it and when they sent out an invoice or letter they would simply just stamp their address on the envelope. I kept telling them that it just looks horrible and they should really consider having us print their envelopes with their logo, company colors, etc. to appear more attractive, but they simply didn’t see the point. Until they had a big client of theirs call to let them know how ugly he thought their stationery was (yes, people really do notice). Embarrassed and humiliated they called me and now have all of their business stationery professionally printed.

Your printing is part of your business marketing and every piece of it should be aligned with the goal of getting more leads, customers, clients, and sales, so make sure it  looks good and is done professionally.

  1. Here are a few things you should consider when it comes to your business stationery:
  2. Do I have a professionally done logo that reflects my business or am I just using a generic mass produced card I got for free off of the internet?
  3. Is all my stationery printed on quality paper?
  4. If I were a client or potential client would I view my company as professional and someone I would want to do business with?
  5. Does my stationery stand out?

You wouldn’t walk into a clients office in shorts and a t-shirt and having poorly produced business stationery should be looked at in the same way. You need to impress clients from every direction. Make sure you have all of your bases covered, from your personal appearance all the way down to your business card.
